We're Here, We're Queer, We Love to Watch Movies

Richard Knight, Jr. is senior film critic for the Windy City Times and also one half of the gay cinema duo The Movie Queens. We've profiled them before and they're back with a new episode, delving into the homoeroticism of superhero movies. Batman's rubber nipples, Professor Xavier and Magneto's gay banter in X Men, and the completely unsubtle camptastic qualities of 300 all go under the microscope. If only they'd talked about the new Transformers movie! Then again, with all that crunching metal and stick shifting, perhaps it's worthy of its own episode. The Fast & the Bi-Curious indeed.
Knight is founder of a brand new group for cinephiles of GLBT fare, The Queer Film Society. Several other Chicago-based critics and film scholars are onboard, including Hank Sartin of Time Out, Jonathan Lewis of Gay Chicago Magazine, and popular blogger and Northwestern professor Nick Davis (and, it should be mentioned, yours truly). The new non-profit invites you to sign up and become a Friend, which entitles you to be eligible for free passes to preview screenings (upcoming movies include Julie & Julia and Taking Woodstock) and advance word of other events. QFS will also be involved in this fall's Chicago International Film Festival and Reeling.
