Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week:" Metropolitan "Flywheel" Bright Lager

We've mentioned before that local brewing is entering something of a golden age. With both Half Acre and Metropolitan planting roots with breweries, Josh Deth finishing up construction on Revolution Brewing and bringing on Jim Cibak as his brewer, there's no shortage of good local beers.
Karl spoke with Metropolitan's Tracy Hurst in one of the site's first podcasts. Since then, we've been slacking in getting to Metropolitan for a tour. That doesn't mean we haven't enjoyed Tracy's and husband Doug's product. On the contrary, their beer, especially the "Flywheel" bright lager, are go-to pickups when we're empty-handed and heading to a cookout or friend's house. Flywheel was also the beer of choice at a recent friend's wedding at Fitzgerald's. "Bright lager" is appropriate; the Hursts brew Flywheel inspired by classic German lagers. Unlike classic German lagers, Flywheel is both malty and spicy. It also tastes just as bright as it warms to ambient temperature than it does fresh out of the cooler.
