Grand Duchy is Frank Black's electro-pop rock side project he's got going with his wife, Violet Clark. Actually, maybe it's not a side project. Black seems to like to keep incredibly so maybe all his bands are main projects? Semantics. What is clear is that Grand Duchy is a delightful listen, and Clark and Black act as excellent foils to each other, teasing out gentle melodies and crafting delicate and ingratiating tunes that linger on long after the stylus has hit the label.

They're playing at Subterranean tonight in advance of their appearance at Wicker Park Fest tomorrow. We have a pair of tickets to tonight's show, and we're giving them to the first person to email jim (at) chicagoist (dot) com with "Pick me! Pick me!" in the subject line. Congratulations to Jeff for winning the contest! It should be an excellent show, made even more so because Chicagoist favorite Big Science is opening. Oh hey, and look! Empires is on the bill too!

Grand Duchy plays tonight, July 24, at Subterranean, 2011 W North, 9:30 p.m., $12, 17+
