The Friday Buffet

  • Today: Chicago Wine School is hosting a course on Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This will include tasting a really good Pape and learning of some of the grape varietals that go into this classic French blend. (The Wine Consortium, 123 E. 23rd St., 6:30-8 p.m., $45.)
  • Tomorrow: The highlight (such as it is) of Taste of Lincoln Avenue this weekend will be the Jimmy John's-sponsored sandwich making and eating competition. Recent Chicagoist podcast guest Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti, Tim "Gravy" Brown and others try to eat as many sandwiches as Jimmy John's can make. Who can forget Marcus and Stolpman's visit to this last year? Laura didn't even have a zoom lens last year and said that was too much detail.   • Sunday: If Deep Dish and Gravy didn't spoil your appetite, head back to Taste of Lincoln, where FIG Catering will be setting up shop for the day
  • Monday: North Park-based confectioner Beijo de Chocolat is having a white wine tasting from 6:30-8:30 Monday. here's hoping they have a lot of white chocolate to pair with the wine. (3334 W. Foster, 773-267-0138)
  • Tuesday: The Hearty boys are opening up their former HBTV space for one-night-only meal prepared from diner requests. (3819 N. Broadway, 5-10 p.m., $35, RSVP to 773-244-9866, ext. 203)
  • Wednesday: Blackbird's Salon dinner series will pair a five-course dinner from chef Mike Sheerin inspired from the artwork of artist David Molinaro in the restaurant's upstairs salon. The dinner will be preceded by a champagne reception (619 W. Randolph, 312-715-0708, 6:30 p.m. start.)
  • Thursday:The Poison Cup is hosting a singles mingle at 7 p.m. Meet Mr./Miss Right (or Mr./Miss Right Now) while tasting some wonderful wines and enjoying complimentary fondue from Geja's Café.
