Kids Learn To Love Garageband With Jessica Hopper

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Jul 30, 2009 3:30PM

2009_07_hopper_rocking.jpg Jessica Hopper is currently on her reading tour promoting her new book The Girls' Guide To Rocking. We've already weighted in with our thoughts on this excellent primer, and reports from other stops have lead us to believe that kids are embracing the book and taking its advice to heart. Hopper has been trying to organize little bonus offerings at some readings, and her stop this afternoon at the YouMedia Center in Harold Washington Library is no different.

She'll be reading at 1:30 p.m. and immediately afterward there will be a "How To Use Garageband" workshop. Now, we love the book and think it offers excellent advice on the use of Garageband, but the idea that a bunch of kids and teenagers can get a hands-on tutorial on how to use the program to create their own music is exciting.

So if you're a kid -- or the parent of a kid -- who either has a band or has the slightest interest in starting a band, or even the teensiest interest in making music (and we suspect that's about 87% of kids, because who doesn't want to be a rock star?) then this event is for you!
