Julie & Julia opens in theaters today and restaurants throughout the city are offering specials in honor of the late Julia Child using recipes from her seminal cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Today, we're rounding up a few for the Buffet and we've added our favorite portrayal of the French Chef, Dan Aykroyd's performance from the early days of "Saturday Night Live."
- Perennial: Chef Ryan Poli is making a cherry clafouti tart, a dessert he first experienced when he was working pastries at the famed Le Francais (1800 N. Lincoln)
- BOKA: Chef Guiseppe Tentori is making steak au poivre. (1729 N. Halsted)
- Brasserie JO is offering a slate of Child-inspired dishes including Baked Yogurt-Tart, Chilled Leek and Potato Soup, and Chicken รก la Diable with Mustard and Herbs. They'll also screen classic black-and-white footage of The French Chef. (59 W. Hubbard)
- Bistro 110 (110 E. Pearson) not only has a Child-inspired menu featuring onion tart with anchovies and black olives, frisee salad with heirloom tomatoes, scallion and camembert biscuits and scallops gratineed with wine, garlic and herbs, they're giving away passes to see the movie to the first 20 people who reserve for dinner this evening.
