The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue

2009_8_9moleman.jpg We're not sure if Tom Tunney has been informed yet, but it appears that a subterranean monster is wreaking havoc in the basement of a local vintage brownstone apartment building. No need to worry though. Brothers Marion and Jarmon, alongside tenant Hezekiah Confab, are on the case and preparing for battle.

The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue just wrapped production. The low-budget indie comedy stars Chicago actors Mike Bradecich and John LaFlamboy as two brothers who get more than they bargained for after inheriting a piece of property from their mother. Horror legend Robert Englund is also featured as one of the building's residents, and other comedians and improv veterans from the local scene round out the cast (including Susan Messing, Dina Facklis, Greg Hollimon, Brad Morris, TJ Jagodowski and Dave Pasquesi). Bradecich and LaFlamboy run Big Tree Productions, whose website cheekily describes its members as "former child stars from the sitcoms of the 80's who have decided to make movies as a way of supporting our self-destructive habits." Joke or not, the 80's vibe definitely comes through: picture a DIY Ghostbusters or (as described by associate producer Jamie Joyce) "a Goonies for adults." No word yet on when the movie will be ready to screen, but we'll keep you posted.
