Punk Legends Form "Supergroup"

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 28, 2009 4:20PM

2009_08_nefarious_fat_cats.jpg We don't particularly like the whole "supergroup" concept, especially since it's usually employed by marketers eager to sell half-baked ideas by famous people (erm, Chickenfoot?). However, when it is a word merely employed to describe a bunch of legendary folks getting together with no pretensions, then we're O.K. with it.

The Nefarious Fat Cats is truly made up of some legendary dudes from the punk scene, both local and international, hellbent on just having a good time. Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers, John Haggerty of Pegboy and formerly of Naked Raygun, Joe Haggerty of Pegboy, and Mark DeRosa of Dummy have gotten together to do a couple fundraisers in the past with special guests like Scott Lucas of Local H and Herb Rosen of The Beernuts filling out their ranks. The band had so much fun playing classic punk rock and old school rock and/or roll covers they decided to make it more than just a sporadic thing. Audiences certainly won't mind since their previous shows were affairs choked with sweating bodies and pumping fists marked by smiles all around and a general, if aggressive, sense of bonhomie.

It should be a raucous good time.

The Nefarious Fat Cats play Sunday, August 30, at Beat Kitchen 2100 W Belmont, 8 p.m., $8, 21+
