Windy City Rollers Storm Back Into Action

By Marcus Gilmer in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 28, 2009 8:45PM

2009_08_28_WCR.jpg You know what we've been craving? Roller derby. Thank Heavens, there's more on the way. The ladies of the Windy City Roller All-Star squad have their work cut out for them against the Baltimore's Charm City All-Stars. According to the WCR:

The two teams met in the quarterfinals of last year's Eastern Regional tournament, and WCR bounced Charm from a spot at the WFTDA Championships with a 137-76 win. With WFTDA's growth and "redistricting" in 2009, the two leagues are no longer regional rivals, but it's quite possible that the teams could meet again in tournament play in November if both advance to this year's WFTDA Championships in Philly.

The Charm City All-Stars are 12-2 this year, making them a mighty good opponent for the Windy City All-Stars. Tomorrow's roster for the Windy City team looks like this: Captains: Malice with Chains and Varla Vendetta; and team members Athena DeCrime, Beth Amphetamine, Blossom Bruiso, GoGo Hatchet, Hoosier Mama, Megan Formor, Nina Millimeter, Ruth Enasia, Shocka Conduit, Wreck N Shrew, Ying O'Fire, Yvette Yourmaker.

But there's some bonus derby for you early birds. The Windy City ladies are rolling out their secondary All-Star squad, appropriately named The Second Wind, to take on Cleveland's Burning River All-Stars. It's gonna be a feisty competition.

The Early Bird bout gets underway at 5:35 p.m. and the headliner at 7 p.m.

Windy City Rollers, 5:35 p.m. and 7 p.m., UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine, Tickets $20 or $40 via Ticketmaster
