After a failed attempt to shoot and kill an off-duty cop believed to be a rival, four gang members were charged with attempted first-degree murder, Chicago Breaking News reports.

Fernando Lopez, 20 - one of the four alleged Latin Kings gang members arrested in connection to the incident - was denied bail, the report says. Alleged gunman Jesus Rios, 20, and Fernando Gonzalez are held in lieu of $350,000. Jose Huerta, 21, is held on $300,000 bail.

The gang members went after the officer's car as he drove through Little Village Thursday morning around 3 a.m. The officer was driving in "Two- Sixers" territory, a rival neighborhood gang, according to police sources cited in the report.

The officer noticed he was being followed by a car with four people inside. He tried to lose the car, driving around several blocks, but the car kept up with him.

He called 911 for help twice but the car sped up, pulled up next to him and opened fire. The shots "narrowly missed his head," the report said. The officer fired back and followed the car until he lost sight. However descriptions of the car led to the members' arrest on Friday.

When arrested, Harrison Area detectives learned the members were "allegedly trying to avenge an earlier shooting."
