Full Moon Fire Jam at Foster Ave. Beach

Former Chicagoista Samantha — who is now traversing the wilds of Wyoming in her spur-enhanced gladiator sandals and elegant turquoise jewelry sets, reporting on whatever in the hell happens in that state — recently advised us via email to check out the Full Moon gathering of fire spinners on Foster Ave. Beach. "Rest assured, it's bad-ass," she told us. So we went and took some pictures for you.
Unfortunately, our photos can not capture the total essence of the festivities: The smell of wet grass, or the rhythmic drumming worthy of a Wackiki Wabbit-like dancing fit, or the fear of having an incendiary contact with the sparks from one of those things the dancers whip around (our companion, who has experience in such matters, informed us that the chains-with-flames-on-the-ends are called pois). So we encourage you to check out the event for yourself. This announcement says the next Jam is Sunday, Oct. 4 at around 6:30 p.m.
