H1N1 Vaccine On The Way

2009_05_04_swineflu.jpg Nearly two million doses of the swine flu vaccine will make it to Illinois soon. The Illinois Department of Public Health announced today that 1.5 million doses will be delivered to areas outside of Chicago while 500,000 doses will be delivered to Chicago, all within the next four weeks. But don't start lining up for your shot just yet; only those in certain segments of the population will get first crack at them. Per the Tribune:

Those provider sites have each signed agreements with federal health authorities that they will only vaccinate individuals in high-priority categories, including pregnant women, care givers to infants younger than 6 months old, children and young people from 6 months to 24 years old, health-care workers, and 25- to 64-year-olds with serious underlying health problems.

But fear not: after the initial shipment, around 900,000 more expect to be shipped to the state (660,000 outside of Chicago, 200,000 to Chicago) for as long as the shots are needed.
