Chicagoist Wants You: New Foodies
By Chuck Sudo in Food on Sep 22, 2009 4:20PM
Chicagoist would like to add a few more food and drink writers to our staff to flesh out our coverage of the beat and make it, and the site, even better. If you meet the qualifications, can make the time commitment, and would like to join the Chicagoist team, here's what we're specifically looking for:
Cooking Classes Correspondent
We'd love to have someone who can give our readers a fair review of local cooking classes, to give an idea of which ones are the most beneficial for a consumer's dollar, which are just "meh," and which are a waste of time. We'll also work with this writer to establish a regular calendar of upcoming cooking classes for readers.
Restaurant Design and Decor Correspondent
Are you a fan of restaurants with communal tables like the Publican? Do you prefer to have new silverware with every course in a five-star restaurant? Ever questioned how the architecture of a restaurant's dining room complements the food and overall dining experience? Do you think about how background music or the sounds of a kitchen enhance or detract from the restaurants you visit? So do we and we want someone to find out the deeper details of the architecture and design of Our Town's restaurants, bistros, and even hot dog joints and diners.
Food Policy and Health Correspondent
Our inboxes are routinely peppered by the City Department of Public Health and other organizations with press releases about restaurant closings, events related to public health and healthy eating, Community Sponsored Agriculture programs, farmers markets, updates on combating food deserts throughout the city, or news related to food pantries and food banks. We'd love someone to focus specifically on this.
If you're interested in any of these position, please send us an e-mail to applychicagoist(at)gmail(dot)com, with "New Foodies" in the subject heading. Please specify which correspondent position you're interested in and include a sample of your work if possible. As with all writing positions at Chicagoist, these are volunteer but you'll become part of one of the most popular blogs in the city.
