Freaks Screens With A Live Soundtrack
By Veronica Murtagh in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 24, 2009 10:20PM
Tod Browning's 1932 horror classic, Freaks, was far ahead of it's time both in casting and ideology. Browning cast real carnival sideshow performers in lieu of faking their natural deformities through costuming and makeup. Though fictional in plot, the film is a poignant statement on honor and prejudice.
On December 9 the Chicago Cultural Center will host a screening of Freaks in the Claudia Cassidy Theater. Newbies and longtime Freaks fans will have the opportunity to experience the film set against a backdrop of live, original music performed by the Silent Theatre Band. The screening is FREE and the evening kicks off at 7 p.m.
