A slew of pups rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri got a special holiday stop-over in Chicago en route to New York. The pups made it to Chicago by bus and spent Thanksgiving Day here in town before getting flown to New York. Per the Trib:

This morning, Pet Airways was scheduled to fly the dogs from Midway to New York's LaGuardia Airport at 10 a.m.on a flight dubbed, "Operation Thanksgiving Day Flight to Freedom," said Dan Wiesel, founder of Pet Airways. The dogs, which range from about four months to three years old, will then be taken to the North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, N.Y., where they will be put up for adoption.

"They're in great shape," Wiesel said. "They come from a traumatic experience. ... they don't know what's going on. [But] they've got 15 people hugging and kissing them."

The rescue mission is being coordinated by Best Friends Animal Society and Pet Airways.

Pet Airways handles flights for pets in Chicago, New York, L.A., Denver, DC/Baltimore, Omaha, and Phoenix.
