It’s the season of giving, and we’re all looking for a way to help the less fortunate. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time in the process. This year, Covers for Cover II gives Chicago the chance to support a worthy cause while rockin’ out with local female cover bands. The show benefits Connections for Abused Women and their Children, a shelter that offers advocacy, counseling and a 24-hour hotline to women and children affected by domestic abuse.

The benefit’s organized by local celebrity Miss Mia Park and MCed by Park's co-host on the children’s music TV show, Chic-A-Go-Go, Rattina. Women from bands like The Mekons, Kim and The Venom Lords will pay tribute to some of their favorite musicians while raising money and social consciousness for fellow Chicago women in need. You’ll hear covers from the likes of Kiss, The Velvet Underground, The Breeders and more. Look forward to seeing Miss Mia, the benefit’s leading lady herself, drumming and singing in Double Life, covering The Cars, as well as drumming in Aloha Live!, covering traditional Hawaiian songs and a Led Zeppelin song.

Miss Mia organized the first Covers for Cover in 2006 because, she says, “I often feel selfish because even though I spend so much energy living my life, I could do more to help others who don't have the same opportunities that I'm privileged to have.” The show raised $1500 for Deborah's Place, a local women's homeless shelter, and this year they hope to do even better. Tickets are $12, but you can cut $2 off that price if you donate new toiletries at the door (pads and tampons are usually needed most.) That may seem like an unsubstantial contribution for such a heavy cause, but if the show manages to fill up Lincoln Hall’s huge capacity, imagine the significant difference it will make for local women and children escaping domestic violence.

The full line-up follows after the jump.
