Big Time Sarah's Saucy Christmas

By Sarah Cobarrubias in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 23, 2009 7:00PM

Christmas day is just around the corner, and honestly we're a little anxious to get it over with. Nothing against good tidings and all that, but after a long day with the family and the fifth or sixth run of A Christmas Story, it's hard to fight the urge to sneak out the bathroom window and run to the nearest bar for some holiday-free fun. Even though most places will be closed down for the holy night, you can still head over to B.L.U.E.S. for a few non-eggnog drinks and a performance by Chicago favorite Big Time Sarah.

We first saw her perform back in 2006 at Blue Chicago, but she's been singing all around the Windy City since the '60s, and has been a staple in the Northside blues scene for more than twenty years. Don't let her long history fool you. She may be 63, but through the years she's managed to maintained her powerful, gritty vocal style and downright raunchy demeanor.

That's right: raunchy. Big Time Sarah's known for her spunky stage presence and dirty banter, so expect to witness a few sexual gestures and some body rubbing throughout the night. She's a pro at working the crowd and usually comes down from the stage to mingle and dance with her fans. Get ready to sing along to her renditions of "Hoochie Coochie Man” and “Meet Me With Your Black Drawers On.” And if you don't, chances are she'll drag you on stage to share the mic with her.

Big Time Sarah Performs December 25 at B.L.U.E.S., 2519 N Halsted, 9:30 p.m., $10, 21+
