Hawk Heading To The Hall

Major League Baseball announced it's Hall of Fame class of 2010 and it - finally - includes Cubs great Andre Dawson. In fact, Dawson was the only player elected to the hall by the BBWA this year. Dawson received 77.9 percent of the vote, the only player to achieve the 75 percent of votes required to earn election to the Hall. Pitcher Bert Blyleven and infielder Roberto Alomar fell just short of the threshold.
Dawson played 21 years for four teams, a bulk of that - 11 seasons - for the Montreal Expos, but is remembered just as much for his years with the Cubs, including his first season in Wrigley - 1987 - when he won the N.L. MVP behind a year that saw him hit .287 with 49 homers and 137 RBIs. Dawson also won two Gold Gloves, a Silver Slugger, and was named to five All-Star teams in his six seasons with the Cubs. For his entire career, Dawson eight Gold Gloves, four Silver Sluggers, was an eight-time All-Star, had that '87 MVP and also won the 1976 N.L. Rookie of the Year award.
Fellow Cub Lee Smith was also on the ballot but missed the cut with only 47.3 percent. Former White Sox Harold Baines received only 6.1 percent.
