Dare 2 Dream Benefit Concert

2010_12_dare2dream.jpg On Friday, February 5, Platform One Entertainment will host Dare 2 Dream, its seventh benefit event, at the House of Blues. The event will feature a concert and silent auction, with a portion of the proceeds going to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital to support pediatric cancer research and treatment.

The concert will feature rock/jam band Gov't Mule, who will take a short break from their By a Thread tour to headline the benefit. If you’re not familiar with the band, it began as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band back in ’94, and since then they’ve been constantly touring and recording albums featuring their gritty, bluesy classic rock, inspired by the likes of Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Mountain. Fans will have a chance to hang out with the quartet, as every $5 donation buys a ticket in a raffle to attend a meet and greet.

This should be a pretty fun way to support a cause as urgent and massive as the fight against pediatric cancer. After all, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in the U.S. for children between infancy and age 15. Comer Children’s Hospital not only provides diagnosis and treatment for over 3,000 children each year with about a 70% cure rate, but it also focuses on research for new therapies to help minimize the impact of chemotherapy and radiation.

In conclusion: music good, cancer bad. So, buy a ticket and support Comer Children’s Hospital in their efforts to save the lives of children diagnosed with cancer.

Dare 2 Dream is Friday, February 5 at House of Blues, 329 N Dearborn, 7 p.m., $35, 21+
