Senators Handle 'Hawks
Both teams rode winning streaks into last night's game, but Ottawa skated out the winner after ousting the Blackhawks 4-1. The Sens took a 2-0 lead in the first but Marian Hossa scored his 13th goal of the season - a short-handed goal just over six minutes in to the second period - to cut that lead in half. But Ottawa was too much, scoring another goal in the second and one more for good measure in the third to cruise to the victory even as the 'Hawks out-shot them 30-18. Huet allowed all four goals and grabbed 14 saves in net for Chicago. The 'Hawks try to bounce back tomorrow night in Calgary (8:30 p.m., CSN).

College Basketball

  • The Illini had a chance to upset No. 15 Purdue but let it slip away. Leading by four at the half, Illinois went cold to start the second and Purdue used a 15-4 run to take the lead for good on their way to an 84-78 victory. Demetri McCamey had 28 points and 9 assists in the losing effort.
  • Ohio State thumped Northwestern 76-56 as the Wildcats had an awful first half (17 points) that they couldn't recover from. John Shurna had 22 points and Drew Crawford had 11 for Northwestern.
  • Chicago State's struggles continued as they lost to Eastern Kentucky 74-50, the team's eighth straight loss. Christian Wall led the Cougars with 13 points.
