Trip Out At Psych Fest

2010_01_PsychFest.jpg Culling decades of wordly influences, the Chicago Metaphysical Circus aims to reimagine underground psychedelia right here in Chicago on Friday night with the presentation of the city's first-ever Psych Fest at The Hideout.

Psych Fest traverses time and headspace, with a lineup of local acts that embrace a full gamut of psych sounds. Black Wyrm Seed offer up the reflective side of the spectrum with ambient dark jazz while The Great Society Mind Destroyers bring the riffs and garage rock influence. Vee Dee continue to amp up the evening's volume taking the audience Into the Void with powerful growls set to distorted guitar. A primer on psych wouldn't be complete without some head-nodding noise trance and Sadhu Sadhu fulfill with hallucinogenic '60s grooves. Plastic Crimewave Sound and Dark Fog cap off the evening's bill with their respective strengths, acid space experimentation and face-melting drone rock. Velcro Lewis provides DJ support across the evening.

Psych Fest, Friday, January 22, at The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia, 8 p.m., $10, 21+.
