Evanston's "Zombie" Cat Problem

2010_01_28_cats.jpg Evanston has a problem. A cat problem. A death investigation over the weekend discovered a home with what's being called a "feral cat colony" that numbers around 100 total animals. Authorities say they've received complaints before about the cats and have warned neighbors to keep a close eye on their own felines as they could exposed to disease from the feral cats.

A neighbor told Newsradio 780 many of the cats he had seen on the property appeared diseased and looked like "zombie cats."

Animal Control plans "capture and abatement" to round up the feral cats and advised cat-owners in the area to make sure that their own pets are tagged and have microchips. Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther told WBBM that the dead woman's family was cooperating but was not going to take in the cats, adding that if Animal Control officially deemed the cats feral, some would be "humanely" euthanized.
