The Sunday fire that raged through Costa's restaurant in Greektown did more damage than any of the photos taken can document. City demolition crews tore down the remaining structure as the fire, which started in a deep fat fryer in the kitchen, quickly grew out of control and made the building unstable.

The fire, which was fought by 170 firefighters, also did serious damage to nearby businesses Athens Grocery, the Pan Hellenic Pastry Shop and Greektown Music. Greektown Music owner Yiannis Morikis told the Sun-Times he wasn't certain if he could salvage anything from the family-owned business.

Costa's 78-year-old owner, Chris Demos, also told the Sun-Times that he hopes to rebuild Costa's as soon as possible. "It's my life."
