Primary Turnout Was Record Low

2010_02_01-vote.jpg Remember how we lamented the low voter turnout in last week's primary elections? It seems last weeks low turnout was a new record low for a non-presidential primary. The CNC reports that the final turnout came in at 27.2 percent, beating the previous record low of 29.14 percent in 1958. James Warren laments more on this figure here.

On a cable television call-in show that evening, viewers rationalized not voting. They included Quentin, who identified himself as a postal worker and said he could not vote because he had worked the night shift. Last time I checked, the polls were open during the day — when Quentin apparently was not at work.
