Rotofugi Gallery in East Village has been showcasing the very best in pop art and toy design since 2004. As a partner of Rotofugi Designer Toy Sore, the gallery serves as a natural extension, allowing patrons to delve deeper into the art and design that inspires the store's products. Starting February 19, the gallery will premier Josh "Shag" Agle's exhibit, Red Star, Black Eye, a vivid and beautiful collection of illustrated art. The opening also marks the release of Agle's new Shriner "Gallery Prototype Edition" figure (pictured right), which he will be singing that night from 7-8pm. The toy runs at a steep $75, but for enthusiasts this is certainly reasonable.

Josh Agle works in California as a designer, illustrator and painter. His first gallery show was in 1997 and since then he's had successful solo exhibits all over the world. His work is vibrant and feels very retro, almost like copy-less versions of 50s and 60s product advertisements. Agle creates wonderful scenes that do well to conjure a narrative in the viewer's mind. The Red Star, Black Eye exhibit will be his first at Rotofugi and will run through March 14.
