The (Con)temporary Art Space opened on Tuesday as part of the Chicago Loop Alliance's Pop-Up Art Loop initiative. (C)tas's opening reception is tonight, and we're excited to see what the empty-retail-space-turned-cultural-venue will provide the loop. Who knows, maybe the Pop-Up Art Loop initiative will help push the loop back to its hotspot glory days of lore.
transforms empty storefronts in the Loop into a moveable feast of public art galleries, exhibits and studios. A new initiative of Chicago Loop Alliance, Pop-Up Art Loop creates partnerships between artists and property owners, creating temporary gallery space at no cost to the artist in prime Loop locations. Enjoy photography, sculpture, 2D art, video and new media, installations and more. See what's popping up now!
Moveable feast!
As a multi-use studio and artists workshop, (C)tas will offer a number of arty resources, including: an info bureau that will work like a tourist information center; an interactive wall map called "An Other Chicago" showing the "diverse cultural ecology" of Chicagoland; a "Co-Working Studio" for artists to work, meet, share resources, and work on the map; a concept shop with books, art, and other items; and a rotating exhibition space that will be curated by (c)tas members.
You can see photos of the construction on their blog.
(C)tas's opening reception is from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at 208 S Wabash, Chicago Il 60603.
(C)tas is open Tues-Sun 11:30 p.m. - 5:30p.m.
