Weekend Dance Party: Trick Disco Hits Subterranean

2010_02_19_trickdisco.jpg Subterranean's monthly Trick Disco stakes claim to this week's edition of Weekend Dance Party. We first considered giving the nod to LA Riots, Members Only AV and Team Bayside High at Abbey Pub on Saturday, but the show's steep $15 price tag soured us a bit. Besides, tonight's Trick Disco is equally good, and at a cool $5, we see no reason not to make it our dance destination.

Tonight Trick Disco's lineup is headlined by the UK's Ghosts of Venice, with great support in Only Children, Le Principle and OCD Automatic. Ghosts of Venice is the solo brainchild of Leeds producer Lee Dunn, and under the moniker he's been nothing short of awesome, remixing and re-editing some unexpected tunes (Janet Jackson and Shakira to name a couple) into nu-disco bangers that rip right through any dance floor.

As the party's title suggests, the entire night will be filled with the funky sound of what is being hailed as nu-disco, the increasinlgly hard-to-pinpoint fusion of disco, electro, house and even rock. Ghosts of Venice's support, Only Children, Le Principle and OCD Automatic are in the trenches of the nu-disco movement and are ready to lay it down, right here, right now, for you.

Trick Disco is tonight, Subterranean, 2011 W North, 10 p.m., 21+, $5
