Early this morning, firefighters rescued more than 20 people after a 2-alarm fire broke out in an apartment building in Rogers Park. Firefighters were called to the scene around 1:04 a.m. at the 6900 block of North Ashland Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. Upon arriving they noticed people standing at windows yelling for help.

Firefighters immediately set up seven ground ladders and three main ladders and removed several people out of the building through the windows, Langford said. The rest of the residents were able to get out of the burning building on their own. The fire--which was contained to the second and third floor of the 4-story apartment building--only injured three people. Two victims were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and one person was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital. Langford said that all three victims appeared to be in good condition, and more than 30 residents have been displaced. [Chicago Tribune]
