McMahon Joins Slaughter Ownership

Given Chicago's (perhaps unhealthy) continued infatuation with the 1985 Bears team, it's certainly shrewd marketing to keep getting more members of that squad involved with the Chicago Slaughter of the Indoor Football League. Already coached by Steve "Mongo" McMichael, the Slaughter recently signed the late Walter Payton's son Jarrett to play running back for them. Now, the Punky QB himself, Jim McMahon has signed on as team owner. McMichael said during the Friday press conference, "Chicago football fans have another opportunity to see a McMahon, McMichael and Payton triple-threat in action." But just how visible an owner with McMahon be? He said on Friday, "I am excited to be a part of this team and it gives me a chance to keep my ties here in Chicago since I moved out (to Florida)."
While it's yet to be seen how much time Jimmy Mac will spend in town running the Slaughter while he lives in Florida, he will be one of the big attractions on Opening Night. The Slaughter, who play in Hoffman Estates' Sears Centre, open their 2010 season this Saturday, February 27. The home opener will be Championship Night, where the team hangs its Championship banner following last year's 14-0 season and McMahon will be signing autographs for the fans.
