Windy City Rollers Bang Out Bout Two

By Marcus Gilmer in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 22, 2010 5:00PM

A rare school-night bout, the threat of snow, and Olympic hockey wasn't enough to keep a healthy crowd away from the UIC Pavilion last night as the Windy City Rollers took to the floor for their second bout of the season.

Double Crossers - 105, Manic Attackers - 84
The match-up of the two undefeated teams got off to a defensive, methodical start as slow jams dominated the bout early on. The Double-Crossers led 33-24 at one point in the first half but thanks to a nice jam by the Manics' Ruth Enasia, the Manics fought their way back to a 38-36 lead at halftime. The physical bout gave way to more scoring in the second half thanks to good jammer pairings like the Manics' Beth Amphetamine and the Crossers' Indycent. The Manics' extended their lead to 63-46 but big jams by the Crossers' Julia Rosenwinkel and Nina Milimeter helped them close the gap and then take a late 82-70 lead, a lead that would stay intact through the end of the bout. The Double Crossers now sit atop of the league at 2-0.

The Fury - 162, Hell's Belles - 65
The tough rebuilding year continues for the Hell's Belles as they fell into a huge early hole to The Fury that they were never able to get out of. The Fury used high-scoring jams by the likes of Kola Loka and Jackie Daniels to open up a big 49-5 lead early on. To their credit, the Belles didn't give up, fighting back behind jammers Deb Autry and Shocka Conduit. Still, The Fury were too much, taking a 75-39 lead into the half and continuing the domination in the second half, skating on towards victory and a match-up with the first place Crossers at the next bout.

The next bout will be Saturday, March 27th, so you've got plenty of time to plan ahead.
