A Look Inside Chicago Animal Care and Control

By Kevin Robinson in News on Mar 2, 2010 10:00PM

Cherie Travis, Chicago’s recently minted Commissioner of Animal Care and Control has been bringing some new ideas to an office that was once the butt of political jokes. Travis, who also teaches Animal Law at both DePaul and Northwestern law schools and chairs the Chicago Bar Association’s Animal Law Committee, has put a new focus on caring for the wayward animals that find their way to 27th and Western. That’s including working to find solutions to animals that might be hard to adopt (such as chickens and roosters rescued as part of a cruelty case), and working with staff to improve the quality of life of animals in their care.

If you’re a fan of Cherie Travis on Facebook, you’ve seen the pictures of the animals that they’ve highlighted at the facility, as well as the adoption projects they’ve been working on. And if you’re in the market for a new pet, now’s as good a time as any to drop by Chicago Animal Care and Control to find a new friend.
