Four women died around 2 a.m. this morning when the car they were traveling in smashed into a tree in the South Side neighborhood of Englewood, Chicago police said. Police and paramedics responded to the crash on the westbound side of Garfield Boulevard just west of Morgan Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro to Chicago Breaking News. The car was traveling west at a high speed when it went off the road and struck the tree, Alfaro said.
Three people were reported dead within an hour after the crash and another person was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition. The fourth person, the driver, later died from her injuries. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Quention Curtis said that all four of the car's occupants appeared to be in their 30s. As of this morning, the Cook County medical examiner's office had not confirmed the identities of the women, but three were believed to be in their 20s and one in her 30s.
