Lysacek To Dance With The Stars

The Winter Olympics may be over, but men's figure skating champion and Naperville native Evan Lysacek will be twirling and whirling on a television near you. Prompted by a tweet from Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Cheryl Burke which invited him to join the reality television series, Lysacek actively expressed interest in joining the show after he won gold in Vancouver. All of the hype became a reality, and Lysacek was formally announced as a cast member on the coming season of DWTS beginning March 22. He'll join "celebrities" like Pamela Anderson, Shannon Doherty, Kate Gosselin and Buzz Aldrin [Ed's Note: The second man on the moon reduced to competing with Kate Gosselin and Pam Anderson? WTF? - M.G.].
Maybe Lysacek will follow the footsteps of Season 4 champion and fellow Winter Olympics superstar, Apolo Anton Ohno. Considering that a fair share of Olympians have been on DWTS, Lysacek's chances of winning the entire contest are pretty good: female figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi won the sixth season and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson won the eighth season. Lysacek is already picked to win by Ohno, who thinks Lysacek at least has a better chance of winning than Pam Anderson. It seems like Lysacek has his work cut out for him, as he will be both on DWTS and headlining the Stars on Ice tour this spring. Let's hope Lysacek performs as well on solid ground as he does on ice.
