Oney, who worked for the team as a scouting video technician, tweeted negative comments about Market, the West Loop restaurant partially owned by Williams as well as opinions about player personnel. When management asked Ozzie's son to tone down his comments about the club, the contention instead spiraled until Oney was asked to resign from his job with the team on Friday. He then proceeded to burn bridges by criticizing the team's front office with tweets like, "I hope the dorks aren't running the organization or else were fucked. 3 geeks who never played baseball a day in there life..."
Monday, Oney went on both ESPN 1000 and the Score 670 to air his side of the story. Ozzie was none too pleased that his son continued to drag out this story: "He [Oney] hurt my feelings, because I had told him that was enough. Don't talk about this anymore. All of a sudden, he was talking on the radio. That says you're not respecting what I'm saying."
We hope that this story is finally put to rest and we wonder what the odds are that it was blown into a bigger story than necessary simply to boost ratings for the White Sox reality show airing on MLB Network. Is this all just some sort of viral marketing campaign? Were not 100 percent convinced it's not, although the distractions can't help as the team tries to prepare for the upcoming season.
