Fire Claims Boutique Roscoe Village Bakery

An early morning fire in Roscoe Village resulted in a building that housed boutique bakery Cakegirls being deemed a total loss. The fire broke out on the residential second floor of the building, located in the 2200 block of Belmont, around 5:30 a.m. this morning; Cakegirls was housed on the ground floor. By 6:50 a.m., according to the Tribune, the fire was under control and firefighters had prevented it from spreading to adjacent buildings, but the roof had collapsed. No injuries were reported in the fire and traffic on Belmont between Hoyne and Oakley was closed for a time but has since reopened. Cakegirls is a three-time winner of the Food Network Challenge and has been featured on WeTV's "Amazing Wedding Cakes."
