Properly Sauced: Rick Bayless' Bloody Mary

By Rob Christopher in Food on Mar 29, 2010 6:20PM

When Rick Bayless tweets about a cocktail, you bet we're gonna pay attention. And that's just what he did a few days ago, sharing his recipe for a Spring Green Bloody Mary.

It couldn't be more aptly named. A mix of fresh veggies paired with tequila rather than the traditional vodka forms a libation bursting with tongue-tingling flavors. It's the perfect thing for Sunday brunch. There are so many vitamins in there you could almost convince yourself you're being healthy. Serve it up with chorizo chilaquiles and you're all set.

Spring Green Bloody Mary

3 tablespoons Spring Green Bloody Mary mix (see below)
1.5 oz. blanco tequila
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon simple syrup

Shake well in an iced cocktail shaker then strain into an ice-filled chimney glass and serve.

Spring Green Bloody Mary mix

2 cups chopped raw tomatillos
2 cups chopped cucumber
1 serrano chile
1/2 cup cilantro
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon salt

Puree until smooth and then stick it in the fridge until use.
