No Passion Pit Tickets? No Problem

With Passion Pit's steadily growing popularity, it's no surprise the electro-pop fivesome quickly sold out their show this Friday at the Congress. If you're one of the many fans who perhaps waited on a tax return before buying tickets and now find yourself ticketless and forlorn, then cheer up, kiddo. Because not only have they added a second show at the Congress for April 22, but Beauty Bar will also be holding an after party following this Friday night's show featuring a DJ set by the band.

Passion Pit attracted indie-electro lovers with their first EP, Chunk of Change, back in 2008, but the band really blew up last May with the success of their debut full-length, Manners. We, too, fell for their pulsing dance beats and falsetto, emotional vocals. You've probably heard the album's clap-friendly single “Sleepyhead” or (our favorite) “The Reeling,” which contrasts disco-inspired synth and high-pitched vocals with dark, somewhat emo lyrics, like, “Oh, look at me, is this the way I've always been?” The album will be re-released on April 13 in the form of a deluxe edition, featuring all new artwork, different renditions of hit tracks “Sleepyhead” and “Moth’s Wings,” as well as a cover of the Cranberries' “Dreams.”

Beauty Bar, which is located in what was once Sonotheque, just opened to the public Thursday night. It's a retro salon-themed cocktail lounge with walls caked in glitter, so it's just right for the wild dance party that will ensue Friday night. We actually prefer the afterparty to the actual concert; Beauty Bar is a more intimate venue, free of Congress Theater's overbearing security and abundance of underage drinkers asking you to buy them beer. Along with Passion Pit, the afterparty will feature two of Chicago's own electro/dance duos, Team Bayside High and Samone Roberts. Tickets are available at the door only, so you'll probably want to show up early and beat the long line.

Passion Pit Afterparty is Friday, April 2 at the Beauty Bar, 1444 W Chicago, 10pm, $5, 21+
Passion Pit also performs Thursday, April 22 at Congress Theater, 2135 N Milwaukee, 8pm, $25, 18+
