The Morning After

Cubs Edge Reds
Carlos Zambrano, pitching for the first time since his awful Opening Day start, had a much better outing and getting the 'W' as the Cubs edged the Reds 4-3. Big Z gave up three runs and struck out nine over seven innings. The Reds scored all three runs before the Cubs got on the board but helping Z on to victory were a two-run homer by Fukudome in the fourth, a solo shot by Soriano in the fifth, and a pinch-hit homer by Jeff Baker in the eighth. Carlos Marmol struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth for his second save of the year. Tom Gorzelanny takes the hill for the Cubs as they try to take the series later today (12:10 p.m., CSN+).

Sox Fall To Twins
Despite a great effort from Freddy Garcia, the Sox lost to the Twins 2-1, their fourth straight loss on the young season. The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when a Mark Teahen double scored A.J Pierzynski. In the seventh, Garcia, who had pitched six scoreless innings to that point, gave up a two-run homer to the Twins' Jason Kubel, which gave the Twins the 2-1 lead for good. It was the first homer allowed by a White Sox pitcher all season, but it was enough to sink the Sox. The teams wrap up the series today as the Sox try to pull out of their slide and send Mark Buehrle to the mound to help them (1:05 p.m., WGN).
