2010_04_12_seweryn.jpg The search to recover the bodies of victims from this weekend's horrific Polish plane crash, including Chicago-based artist Wojciech Seweryn, continues. Of the process of identifying the remains that have been recovered, Polish Health Minister Ewa Kopacz said, “It’s not an easy procedure. In many cases, it’s only possible to identify the dead with the help of genetic expertise.” Seweryn's daughter has sent a DNA sample to assist in identifying his remains. The sculptor was among 96 people, including Poland's President Lech Kaczynski and several senior military officials, that died in the plane crash. Seweryn, who was born in Poland but immigrated to the United States in 1976, was accompanying the Polish president and other senior officials to the 70th anniversary commemoration of the Katyn Massacre in Russia, in which the Soviet Secret Police murdered thousands of Polish officers, intellectuals, and priests.
