Just a little reminder: Tomorrow is Tax Day and with it comes Chicago's very own Tea Party. At noon in Daley Plaza, the Tea Party Patriots Chicago will launch their second-annual demonstration under the theme of "Repeal It. Replace Congress," while featuring "national known speakers, local liberty leaders and regular Americans" in addition to some live rock, blues and country music. Last year's Tax Day rally drew hundreds of demonstrators to the Loop, in addition to many suburban protesters in Naperville.

"The American people could not be more clear with Washington, DC about how opposed they were to the healthcare bill. DC didn't listen," reads the rally announcement. "Now it's time to repeal the government takeover of healthcare and replace the Congress that passed it without the consent of the people."

A group of left-oriented organizations; led by the M20 coalition; including the Chicago Coalition Against War and Racism and the Gay Liberation Network, among others; obviously are not quite steeped on the party and are planning a coffee party counter-demonstration. "This is OUR City -- not Glenn Beck's or Sarah Palin's. Protest the Tea Party Bigots" reads the call for "all progressive-minded people" to join in the demonstration.

"[T]hese fake grassroots activists are useful tools for corporate America’s political agenda - including opposition to public funding of any kind for human needs, from health care to education .. While claiming to be for “small” government and limited spending, they cheer on U.S. war spending at the current rate of $2 billion dollars a day - almost 60% of the federal budget .. Don’t let the bigots take over our city."
