Cash For Appliances Kicks In Today

2010_04_17_appliances.jpg Don't tell the Tea Party attendees this, but socialist federal pork stimulus money known as the Cash For Appliances program is going toward buying people new energy-efficient appliances across the country. The government has allocated $300 Million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which could save you money on a new energy-saving appliance like a freezer, a fridge, or dishwasher. For renters that don't have a need to pick up any of those, take heart - air conditioner room units are eligible as well.

Rebates of 15% are available and if you recycle your freezer or fridge, it'll net you another $75. Once the money is gone, it's gone, so if you see lines pouring out of your local retail appliance distributor today, that's why. Illinois' rules for the plan are here, and CBS 2 has kindly put together a factlist about the program. Remember you have to make the purchase in person at an approved location.
