Do This: Midwest Cheese Maker Week at Pastoral

By L. Stolpman in Food on Apr 20, 2010 5:40PM

2010_02_09_DT_pastoral.JPG Pastoral will be hosting some outstanding cheese makers from the Midwest this week. This is a good way to try new cheeses and support smaller, local farms that take pride in producing some really tasty cheeses. We're highlighting a few here:

Today, 5:30 p.m.: Head over to the French Market to hear a free lecture (and enjoy some free cheeses) by Prairie Fruits Farm's Leslie Cooperband and her husband, Wes Jarrell - Illinois' only artisan goat cheese producers. They support and value sustainable agriculture in the production of their cheeses (which have also been sold by Williams-Sonoma.) Saturday, 1 - 4 p.m. Oakvale Farmstead from Ohio provides Pastoral with one of its favorite Goudas. Dena King-Nossaman, a member of the family-owned dairy, will be on hand to talk about the dairy and their cheese.
