Spandexxx Brings Some Free Energy To Town

The Spandexxx party, curated by the Moneypenny DJ team, has resumed in a familiar space with a new name, Beauty Bar. While they soft launched with a party there last month, we consider tomorrow's bash to mark the night's true return to form. Why? For starters they've brought Team Bayside High -- that duo of DJs currently ruling the Chicago scene sprinkling fun around them wherever they go -- onto the bill. Secondly, and even more importantly, they're bringing in musical guest Free Energy.

Most promotion around this show is making the most of Free Energy's affiliation with the DFA label and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy handling production duties on their debut, Stuck On Nothing. (An album that we love, by the way.) But if you go to the party expecting to hear yet another Brooklyn dance-rock band you are in for surprise. Free Energy is all about the over-the-top fist-pumping '70s party rock. They are way more Bad Company than Timbuk 3. And they are awesome live. We caught them at Empty Bottle a few months ago and they had the whole room going wild. Seriously, this is a bad that is only going to get bigger as their music spreads so we recommend getting to Beauty Bar early to ensure you're in the room when they finally crank up the amps and bring on the party.
