The Morning After: Bulls Booted

By Marcus Gilmer in News on Apr 28, 2010 3:00PM

Cavs Boot Bulls
The Bulls put up as much fight as they could, but in the end LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were too much for them, defeating the Bulls 96-94 and closing out their first round playoff series. With LeBron dealing with a bum right elbow, the Bulls hung tough, even when they trailed by 12 in the second quarter. The Cavs had a nine point lead with three minutes to go, but the Bulls blazed back, cutting the lead to one, but James hit three of four free throws in the final 71 seconds, bum elbow and all, to knock the Bulls out. Derrick Rose had 31 points to lead the Bulls while Luol Deng added 26. Now the off-season begins. There could be a much different look to this Bulls team come October as the Bulls will surely pursue one of the marquee free agents in the league. And the Vinny Watch is on.

Nats Best Cubs
The Cubs' four-game winning streak came to an end last night as the Nationals beat the Cubs 3-1, keeping Tom Gorzelanny winless (0-3) on the year. The lone Cubs run came in the second on an error by the Nats; they weren't able to muster anything else after that. Gorzelanny struck out three and allowed two runs over seven innings. This afternoon the Cubs send Ryan Dempster, who has never lost to the Nationals, to the mound to try to take the series (1:20 p.m., CSN).

Sox Streak Snapped
The Sox also had their winning-streak snapped - this one at three games - as they fell to the Texas Rangers 4-2. Carlos Quentin and Alexi Ramirez both had RBI singles, but it wasn't enough offense to overcome the Rangers, who scored all four of their runs off of Sox starter Mark Buehrle (7 IP, 4 ER, 2 K). The Sox will try to right the ship tonight when Jake Peavy tries again for his first win of the year (7:05 p.m., CSN).
