The Morning After: Sox, Cubs Both Lose

Sox Fall, Peavy Still Winless
Jake Peavy's 2010 woes continues Wednesday night as the Sox fell to the Rangers 6-5. Peavy gave up five runs in the first inning before settling down a bit, but ultimately was credited for all six Texas runs as he moved to 0-2 on the season. The Sox offense did its best to help Peavy out: a three-run homer by Carlos Quentin in the sixth helped cut the lead and the Sox were able to score twice with two outs in the ninth. But with the tying run on base, the Sox weren't able to get that runner home. Afterwards, Peavy expressed frustration for his slow start to 2010: "You are not paid to try to find your mechanics. The bottom line is about winning and losing. That's what's frustrating for me." Another winless starter, Gavin Floyd, takes the mound today for the White Sox as they try to avoid a Rangers sweep this afternoon (1:05 p.m., CSN).
Nats Down Cubs
Despite a good start from Ryan Dempster, the Cubs couldn't muster enough offense to fend off the Nationals, losing 3-2. The teams exchanged runs through the first two innings, the Cubs scoring on RBI from Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Theriot. But they weren't able to score at all after the second and the Nats came away winning both the game and the series. Dempster struck out six over eight innings, allowing all three Nationals runs. But at least we have Marlon Byrd's catch. The Cubs send Ted Lilly to the mound in today's weekend series opener against Arizona (1:10 p.m., WGN).
