Despite the best efforts of paid protestors, it appears that the illuminated, 360 square foot Toyota sign could be mounted above the bleachers in Wrigley Field in time for the Cubs game on May 10 against the Florida Marlins.

On Thursday, the construction of the sign was placed on the agenda for the meeting of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. If the commission approves the revised plan, there is a chance that the Toyota sign could be constructed by the Cubs next home game. However, there is one caveat that could derail the quick turnaround. Sources have said that Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) has argued that the Cubs need a sign permit that also requires approval from the City Council.

"I believe it needs a City Council order because the sign is over 100 square feet and more than 24 feet above grade. I'm not commenting on whether I'm for or against the sign. I'm worried about making sure that process is followed correctly," Tunney said to the Chicago Sun-Times.
