The Morning After

Cubs Not Enough To Beat Bucs
The Cubs produced on offense yesterday but it was the pitching that gave away yesterday's game as the Cubs fell to Pittsburgh 10-6 and remain winless against the Pirates this year. The Pirates scored three runs in the first but the Cubs answered with four of their own including two on a Soriano double to right. A Marlon Byrd homer later helped push the Cubs out in front 6-4 but the Pirates fought back for a tie. Then, $18 Million Set-Up Man Carlos Zambrano gave up a three run blast in the eighth to give the Bucs a lead they would not relent. The Cubs didn't score after the fourth inning, dooming them to another loss. Ryan Dempster hopes to reverse the Cubs' fortunes when the two teams face off again today (12:05 p.m., CSN).

Royals Rally Past Sox
A tied game was broken wide open by a Royals rally in the seventh inning and the Royals bested the Sox in their series opener 6-1. A.J. Pierzynski singled in the first run, giving the Sox a 1-0 lead in the fifth. The Royals tied it in the sixth, but the game was tied 1-1 going in to the seventh with Mark Buehrle still in the game for the Sox. But it all came unraveled as Buehrle gave up five runs (four earned) in the seventh as the Royals distanced themselves from the Sox, who couldn't get any additional offense going in the loss. The Sox have now lost four of their last six, something they hope to change when they get another shot at the Royals tonight (6:10 p.m., WGN).
