Sprucing Up SUE

By Marcus Gilmer in Arts & Entertainment on May 17, 2010 7:00PM

As we've mentioned before, SUE, the Field Museum's T. rex, is throwing a party to celebrate 10 years with the museum (her 10th anniversary with the Field is actually today!). Of course, before a lady can throw a party, she's got to get herself lookin' good, especially when she's millions of years old. In the above photos, Bill Simpson, collections manager of fossil vertebrates at the Field Musem, can be seen giving the giant ruler of the Field a sprucing up as even giant T. rex skeletons need a cleaning.

The big party will kick off with events next week and continuing all summer long. New things to check out at the Field will be the film Waking the T. rex 3-D: The Story of SUE as well as a robo-SUE, "a super-realistic robotic SUE who responds to humans by looking directly at them and reacting to their movements." And Memorial Day Weekend, Sue Hendrickson, the fossil hunter who not only discovered SUE but for who the lovely behemoth is named, will be at the Field to sign autographs and talk about her discovery.
