Buy This: Green City Market Membership

When we visited Green City Market a few weeks ago, we stopped at the administration table. Usually we breeze on by, eager to get to the produce, but a sign caught our eye: Become a Member of the Market! We're a sucker for memberships - museums, dining clubs, wine clubs, CSAs, you name it. Maybe it's the feeling of being part of something, of having some sort of access. Maybe it's the discounts, as memberships almost always seem to be worth what you pay.

Since GCM has no admissions charge, they have cobbled together a group of discounts for anyone who will donate money. At the "Seedling" level ($50-99), you get a market tote bag, 15% off at Sur la Table (for some of us, this would pay for it by itself), invitations to members-only events and a subscription for the newsletter. There are a number of other levels, with discounts, gifts and vouchers, all the way up to the "Market Benefactor" at $5000.
