On Saturday, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation presented a check for $50,000 to the family of slain officer Thomas Wortham IV. The foundation--which is funded entirely through donations--is a nonprofit organization that honors the lives of fallen officers by providing financial assistance and support to the families of officers killed in the line of duty. The check was presented by former Chicago Police Supt. Philip Cline, the executive director of the foundation, at a ceremony attended by Wortham's commander and other police and charity luminaries. The foundation has provided more than $1 million in aid to officers' families since August 2007. [Chicago Sun-Times].
